Description
Roussanne is a varietal native to the northern Rhone valley of France, the same place that is home to Viognier and Marsanne. It is almost always blended with Marsanne in France and Marsanne is usually the dominant component. However, Rossanne can do very well by itself as long as sufficient acidity is maintained as in this example from here in Santa Barbara County.
It has flavors of stone fruit, particularly peach and apricot, which can be complimented by some citrus flavors of lemon and grapefruit on the finish. This wine was aged in oak for almost 2 years and so it exhibits characteristics of toast and butterscotch from the oak aging.
