New Release: 2018 Syrah ~ Santa Barbara County

Try our New Release: 2018 Syrah. This is a Syrah from a new vineyard.  The wine is a great contrast to our 2016 Syrah from Ballard Canyon, as it is more in the style of a French Syrah from the northern Rhone Valley.

It is big and bold with some earthy notes.  The fruit is evident, but is overshadowed by the meaty, smoky flavors.  Look for flavors like cured meat, bacon fat, tobacco, herbs and smoke.

It is great fun to compare our two Syrahs.  I suspect that most people will have strong feelings for one or the other, and a few will appreciate both.

New Release: 2019 Sangiovese

New Release: 2019 Sangiovese ~ Santa Barbara County

Try our New Release: 2019 Sangiovese.  Just as we did with the 2018 Santa Ynez Valley Grenache, we are doing an early release of part of our 2019 vintage Sangiovese.  Both wines have shown a great deal of bright fruit and good acidity after just 9 months of aging in the barrel so we feel that they are very enjoyable as a wine of this style right now.  A little over half of this wine is still aging in the barrel and will be bottled and released later.

This wine has great light red fruit flavors of strawberry and cherry with  bright acidity that makes them pleasant to drink even without food.  Both versions of the 2018 SYV Grenache were well received, and are sold out, so we hope you will enjoy this early release Sangiovese as well.

New Release: 2018 Grenache Vogelzang

New Release: 2018 Grenache ~ Vogelzang Vineyard ~ Happy Canyon of SB

This is our second Grenache from 2018. The Santa Ynez Valley Grenache is still available.  The wines are from different vineyards, both in the extended Santa Ynez Valley, but 10 miles apart.

The Vogelzang vineyard is our traditional vineyard for Grenache and this wine is more full-bodied and complex than the SYV Grenache with flavors of dark cherry. 

They are both great wines with the bright red fruit aromas and flavors of the SYV contrasting with the darker fruit, body and complexity of the Vogelzang.
